Anthropic is the San Francisco AI safety lab behind Claude — and, for this directory, Claude Code, the autonomous coding agent that plans and carries out multi-step software work from the terminal and desktop with minimal supervision. Founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI researchers led by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, the company pairs frontier model development with an explicit safety and interpretability mandate.

Claude Code has been one of Anthropic’s fastest-growing products since its May 2025 launch, reaching a reported $2.5B annualized run-rate by early 2026 and, by analyst estimates, powering a few percent of all public commits on GitHub. Anthropic’s overall run-rate revenue crossed $47B in May 2026, with the large majority of the Fortune 10 among its enterprise customers.

The funding trajectory has been near-vertical. After reaching a $183B valuation in September 2025, Anthropic raised a $30B Series G at $380B in February 2026, then a $65B Series H at $965B in May 2026 — co-led by Altimeter, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia — before filing confidentially for a US IPO on June 1, 2026. Amazon and Google remain its largest strategic investors.
