Google is the division of Alphabet responsible for the Gemini models and, for this directory, the autonomous agents built on them — chiefly Jules, the asynchronous coding agent that takes a GitHub issue, clones the repository into a cloud VM, makes multi-file changes on its own, and returns a pull request for review. Jules reached general availability at Google I/O 2026, alongside broader agent efforts from Google DeepMind such as Project Astra.

Unlike the startups in this index, Google isn’t a funded company but a business unit of a public parent, Alphabet. Its edge is distribution and integration: agents like Jules plug into GitHub, Android Studio and Firebase, run on Google Cloud infrastructure, and draw on the Gemini model family developed by Google DeepMind, the lab led by Demis Hassabis.

That scale cuts both ways. Google can ship agentic tooling to an enormous existing developer base and pair it with its own TPUs and cloud, but it competes for the same ground as Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex and Cursor — a coding-agent market it helped seed and now races to lead.
